Sachem East senior Sean O’Malley has decided to continue his wrestling career at the University of Maryland.

O’Malley is one of Sachem’s most successful wrestlers and will join his brother Danny who graduated in 2009 and is currently on the Maryland squad.

“I think I made a great choice with Maryland,” O’Malley said. “I will have a great support system academically and on the mats. I am excited to join my bother as a Terp.”

He’ll be wrestling at 141 pounds next year along with his bother.

O’Malley also expressed his interested in wrestling for Kerry McCoy, a Long Island native who was a stand-out wrestler at Longwood in the early 1990s.

The Sean O’Malley file:

  • 140 career wins, the most in school history
  • New York state qualifier
  • Suffolk County Finalist
  • 2 time All-County (3rd in 2010, 2nd in 2011)
  • 2011 League 1 Champion and Outstanding Wrestler
  • 4 time League finalist (only wrestler in school history to achieve this)
  • 4 time All-League

He selected Maryland over West Virginia, Cortland, Southern Main, and Rhode Island.
