The last few weeks…

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

The last few weeks have been awesome. Our golf outing was a huge success and a lot of fun.  The guys returned to campus and have been working hard and improving every day. The new coaching staff is in place and working very well together. The athletic department, despite the current economic challenges, is showing incredible resolve. Many of our teams are doing really well. Several teams are nationally ranked including Field hockey-1st, Men’s Soccer-4th and Women’s Soccer-9th. There are a few new coaches with a lot of fire and passion.  It’s been great getting to know them and I am looking forward to watching them add to the overall success of the department.
With all of the great things going on its tough to rank them, but one of the most exciting events of the last few weeks was President Obama visiting campus. It was a very energy filled morning. Outside of actually being in the arena to hear his speech, the biggest thrill was watching one of our freshmen get an extended handshake with the president. Regardless of your political affiliation, the opportunity to shake “the most powerful man in the world’s” hand is an amazing thing.
I have been pretty fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet President Clinton, George H. Bush and George W. Bush and although I may not agree with everything they did while they were in office, it’s still pretty cool to know and maybe even cooler to tell people that I met three presidents.
We are halfway through our preseason training and if the next two weeks are anything like the first two, its going to be a blast.

  1. Not only is coach McCoy and his staff building a nationally recognized wrestling program, they are building men out of boys. Our son couldn’t be at a better place! Go Terps. “Get it done!”
